We’re often asked which iPad model to buy when construction teams sign up for PlanGrid. With a dizzying range of options, it’s helpful to remember that choosing an iPad comes down to two major factors: screen size and storage space.
Most PlanGrid customers find that iPad Minis work best in the field. With all the features of an iPad Air in a compact package, a Mini is the perfect size to throw in your pocket. For those who need the additional screen space, an iPad Air is the way to go.
Once you’ve decided on screen size, you’ll need to choose your storage capacity. Below are our storage recommendations (these apply to both the Air and Mini):
For projects that fit on a 16GB or 32GB device, we recommend the iPad Mini 2 or iPad Air. For those that need 64GB or 128GB of space, we suggest the iPad Mini 4 or iPad Air 2 — the extra processing power will make all the difference when managing larger projects.
Using PlanGrid on an iPad with cellular data is an ideal way to collaborate with your team from the field. Share annotations and get new drawings on your device without trips to the trailer.
iPad Pro and Apple Pencil
The iPad Pro, Apple’s newest (and largest) tablet, is currently the only device that supports the Apple Pencil stylus. Its size, screen quality, and processing power make it perfect for displaying the master set in the office or trailer.
